Breastfeeding provides babies security, love and food all at once! The Clinton County WIC Program promotes and supports breastfeeding as the normal way of providing infants with the nutrition they need for healthy growth and development. From our supportive staff and Peer Counselor, to our pump program and enhanced packages, we celebrate breastfeeding. WIC currently employs two IBCLC’s (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants) and two CLC’s (Certified Lactation Consultants).
As a new mom, it is hard to know what to expect. You may feel a little nervous about nursing or have many questions. A Peer Counselor is here to help! Our Peer Counselor has personal experience with breastfeeding and is trained to provide information and support. You will find this friendly mom available to meet with you during some clinic hours, by appointment or on the phone, evening and weekends.
The Peer Counseling program is offered free to all WIC families and a peer counselor can be requested at any time during your pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Our WIC staff and Breastfeeding Coordinator can help with questions or concerns about breastfeeding and, if needed, help you obtain a breast pump or nursing aid at no cost. We follow guidelines to determine which of a variety of pumps will suit the needs of the mother and baby. The State guidelines are based on a mother's plans for exclusively breastfeeding and the number of hours spent at work or school.
