International Travelers
“Plan Ahead” at least 6
weeks before leaving on your trip since some vaccines need time to be
effective. Some immunizations for example hepatitis A and B, tetanus and
polio may be received at our clinics or from your family health care
provider. He/she may also write a prescription for oral anti-malarial
and/or typhoid vaccines. Yellow fever vaccine must be received at a
registered yellow fever vaccinator. To get more information:

Vaccine Information Statements: VIS
For each immunization
received, you will be given a vaccine information sheet. This sheet
contains facts about the vaccine. In addition there is information about
the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, a federal program to help
pay for care of anyone who has a serious reaction to a vaccine.

After You have Your ShotsIf needed, treat low
grade fevers, aches and soreness with the pain relievers you usually take.
For the first 24 hours apply cool compresses on the injection site for
redness or swelling and then warm compress as needed. Call your medical
provider for any serious reaction.
NYSIIS Registry
New York State Immunization Information System
or NYSIIS is a vaccine registry that provides a permanent lifelong record of
your immunizations that will never be destroyed or discarded. By law anyone
under the age of 19 will have their immunizations entered in the registry.
After age 19 you
must sign consent to have your records entered. Registries are important
because they;
- Combines dates from
all providers you may have received immunizations from into a single
reliable record.
- Produce a printable
accurate record that can then be used as an official copy for employment,
schools, daycares, and camp entry requirements.
- Prevents
over-vaccination. Without official documentation of your previous
immunizations a physician's office cannot determine which vaccines a
person has already received. As a result, physicians often need to
vaccinate again to assure you have protection against disease.
- Permanent,
immunization records are only kept by health care providers and schools on
average 6 years. Records can be lost or destroyed but will always be
available through the registry.
